The Eiffel Tower

The world's most famous icon

We decided that the Eiffel tower needed another visit apart from the one we had earlier.

It was freezing cold and we walked to the tower going by the local supermarket and a series of restaurants.

We went in the afternoon this time as we wanted to capture pictures of the tower both during the day and at night.

We queued and waited for our turns to be able to buy tickets and finally go up the elevator.

By the time we had to go up it was already dark and we got some wonderful shots. Up we met with a Romanian couple who accepted to photograph both of us.

We then headed to a Chinese restaurant in the area and ordered some sumptuous food which we feasted upon.

As soon as we got out we could feel the cold weather in Paris. It was -5 degrees and no snow, which my wife was expecting to see for the first time.

We went past the Stade de France and the Arc de Triomphe, through the Alma bridge (Pont de L'alma) where Lady Di died, to our Hotel named hotel de l'alma.

Desert Safari

Dune Bashing, Desert Safari and Belly dance

We were picked up at the hotel by our Arabian Adventures tour guide. On the way we passed the other hotels to first pick up an American couple and then a Russian girl. Then we made way to the desert. During the way we spoke about protection etc and that there were scorpions in the desert. We finally arrived at the site of the Dubai Desert Conservation where we would be dune bashing.

A first experience with the desert and we will be en route for some thrilling rides over the dunes of the UAE Desert.

We then went for rides up and down, sometimes we even had the impression that the 4x4 wheel drive was going to fall. The drivers deflate the tyres specially for this type of activity.

dxb20.jpg

After Dune bashing we were driven to the Desert Camp where we would be having a series of activities and dinner.

dxb21.jpg

dxb22.jpg

We were given dates as a welcome and offered to buy photos which were shot by the tour agency's photographers earlier on.

We chose our photos and then went to ride the camels put to our disposition.

dxb23.jpg

Dinner was a mix of Arabic and oriental foods and we were seated the traditional Arabic way.

dxb24.jpg

One could either smoke shisha or have a henna tattoo. We decided to do both.

dxb25.jpg

dxb27.jpg

By the time was ending we were already friends with the American couple Marty and Jules.

dxb26.jpg

We enjoyed the bewitching dances of the bellydancer and then went back to the hotel for bed.

The next day we left Dubai, next destination Paris.

Exploring Dubai

Concrete Jungle

After breakfast we decided to go out and explore the city. There was nothing much to see, or we were too tired from the flight that we wanted to sleep.

Here are some snapshots.

dxb16.jpg

Transportation in Dubai was mainly by the expensive taxi as the metro at that time was under construction.

dxb13.jpg

Jouana. my wife wanted to buy shoes and we got into a store that sells funny shoes.

dxb14.jpg

dxb15.jpg

We also got into a shop looking for souvenirs and they told us that they do not have these things here. Was repeated the same thing. Finally we came across a small souk selling miniature replicas of the Burj al Arab hotel. We asked him how do they call these in Dubai. He replied , souvenirs of course.

Well we then set back to the hotel for some sleep as we were expected in the desert later for some adventure.

On the Way to Dubai

EK DXB and Hotel Marco Polo

We were ready for another honeymoon. This time for a proper and adventurous one. So we boarded Fly Emirates.

My wife was happy for the trip as you can see.

dxb2.jpg

dxb1.jpg

It was her first long flight (She states that 6 hours is long) and you can see the outcome after the flight.

dxb.jpg

We arrived at the newly built Terminal 3 at Dubai International Airport at 5 am in the morning and my wife was claiming that it was cold. I told her to wait until we have arrived in Paris and she will experience the real cold.

dxb3.jpg

dxb4.jpg

We were met by the Arabian Adventures tour representative before the immigration and then we were whisked to the Marco Polo Hotel.

Arriving at the hotel we were given a complimentary Club upgrade.

dxb6.jpg

dxb5.jpg

We quickly had a shower and waited for the breakfast service to begin as we were so hungry that we could eat a cow.

And we were not dissapointed.

As it was Valentine's Day there was even live music playing.
